Pattern Base
Accessibility Statement
Last Updated: December 31, 2024
Our Commitment
Pattern Base is designed to be accessible to everyone. We follow Apple's Human Interface Guidelines and WCAG AAA standards to ensure all users can browse, organize, and enjoy their pattern library effectively.
Supported Accessibility Features
1. VoiceOver
Full Support: All interactive elements include descriptive labels, values, hints, and proper traits. Pattern cards announce pattern names, categories, and key details. The masonry grid is fully navigable with VoiceOver gestures.
2. Dynamic Type
Full Support: Text scales automatically to match your preferred reading size, from extra small to the largest accessibility sizes (AX5). All screens remain fully functional at any text size, with layouts adapting gracefully.
3. Reduce Transparency
Full Support: When Reduce Transparency is enabled, translucent glass effects are replaced with solid colors for better readability while maintaining visual clarity and design intent.
4. Reduce Motion
Full Support: When Reduce Motion is enabled, spring animations are replaced with simple cross-fades. The app respects your system preference throughout, including in the rating interactions and card transitions.
5. Dark Mode
Full Support: Automatic support for Light and Dark appearance modes. Our carefully crafted color palette maintains WCAG AAA contrast ratios in both modes. The warm editorial aesthetic adapts beautifully to your preference.
6. Increase Contrast
Full Support: All text and UI elements meet WCAG AAA contrast standards (7:1 ratio). When Increase Contrast is enabled, borders and visual separators become more prominent for enhanced clarity.
7. Voice Control
Full Support: Navigate and control the entire app using only your voice. All interactive elements have input labels and meet Apple's minimum 44x44 point touch target size for reliable selection.
8. Keyboard Navigation
Full Support: Full iPad keyboard support with standard navigation shortcuts. Browse patterns, navigate between columns, and access all features without touching the screen.
Design Considerations
Touch Targets
All interactive elements meet the minimum 44x44 point touch target size for reliable selection via touch, pointer, or voice control. This includes pattern cards, filter chips, and all buttons.
Color Independence
Information is never conveyed by color alone. Difficulty levels, ratings, favorites, and ownership status all use icons and labels in addition to color. Pattern categories are distinguished by text labels, not just color coding.
Visual Hierarchy
The three-column layout provides clear visual hierarchy with consistent spacing. The editorial typography using New York serif fonts creates clear distinctions between headings, labels, and body text at all sizes.
Image Accessibility
Pattern images support zoom gestures (pinch to zoom 1x-5x, double-tap to toggle zoom). VoiceOver announces image types (pattern photo, technical drawing, etc.) when available.
Haptic Feedback
Haptic feedback accompanies key actions like favoriting patterns, rating, and confirming selections, providing confirmation for users who may not see visual changes immediately.
Features Not Applicable

- Testing with Reduce Transparency and Reduce Motion enabled
- WCAG AAA contrast ratio verification for all color combinations
- Compliance with Apple's Human Interface Guidelines
- Ongoing commitment to accessibility improvements
